Top tips for hiring a siding contractor
With so many siding installation options in the marketplace, it is important you do your due diligence before hiring siding installers. Siding contractors take on the immense responsibility of protecting the integrity of your home structure.
- Ask them to show proof of insurance. A siding repair contractor should carry liability insurance, property damage coverage, and workers comp insurance.
- Also ask for proof of licensing. Unlicensed contractors will not be able to secure the necessary permits to perform siding installation on your home.
- Look at reviews. Some siding installation companies specialize in certain materials, such as vinyl siding.
- Ask for an estimate before the contractor starts the job. You should get no less than three estimates before you choose an exterior contractor.
- Ask about warranties. Good contractors will provide a warranty for the materials used as well as a warranty on the labor and installation.
- Go with your gut. If something seems off about the potential contractor, look elsewhere.
Paying a Siding Contractor
- Never pay 100% of the siding installation project upfront. The contractor should provide you with a plan that includes payment installations. Make sure it is in writing.
- You should expect to pay a down payment of anywhere up to 50% (each exterior contractor may be different)
Questions for your Siding Contractor
- How long will the job take?
- How many years have you been in business?
- What type of siding should I get? Would you recommend vinyl siding, composite siding, metal, wood, or something else?
- Do you offer a warranty, and what does it cover?
- Can you provide any references from customers that required similar jobs?
- Are you insured?
- Do you have any specialty training or certifications in installing a specific type of siding material?
- Do you offer a free in-person estimate?
- Does your final bid include an itemized price breakdown of materials and services and a timeline for completion?
- Who is responsible for debris and waste created by the project?

Accreditation and Ratings Overview
Select businesses earn BBB Accreditation by undergoing a thorough evaluation and upholding the BBB Accreditation Standards.
BBB assigns ratings from A+ (highest) to F (lowest). In some cases, BBB will not rate the business (indicated by an NR, or "No Rating") for reasons that include insufficient information about a business or ongoing review/update of the business's file.
