More information on buying furniture
Even if you ultimately end up buying your furniture online, you may want to visit a furniture store first. Whether you are looking for a sectional couch or a new bed, or a dining room table, seeing it in person can make a difference. A trip to the store lets you check the comfort, feel the fabric, and see the actual colors.
Before you go to the store, think about what you are looking for and your priorities. If you are looking for a specific brand or style of furniture, you should look for a store that carries what you want. If you are more concerned with price, you can look for discount furniture or furniture warehouses.
If you aren’t sure what you want, check out decorating magazines or websites to get some ideas and then go from there. You can also look at furniture stores online and then go into physical stores to do more research.
There are several things you’ll want to do and ask about before you actually purchase furniture:
- Think about whether you want to pay for your purchase outright, put it on a credit card, or buy it on a purchase plan. Some stores may have their own credit cards, which sometimes comes with a discount for your first purchase. This can be a significant savings if you are confident you will pay it off before accruing high interest fees.
- Make sure you understand the return policies on anything you buy.
- If the store has a protection plan for your purchase, be sure to read the fine print and understand what it does and doesn’t cover before deciding if it is worth buying.
- Carefully measure the space your furniture will go in. It can be very disappointing to buy a couch or table or chair and have it not fit where you want it to go.
- You may also want to take pictures of your living spaces to bring with you to the store to help you visualize the furniture in the space and to check colors.
- Make sure you understand any delivery options: do you make an appointment for the delivery? Will the delivery person actually bring the furniture to the appropriate room in your home? Are there assembly services? Will they remove the old furniture you are replacing?

Accreditation and Ratings Overview
Select businesses earn BBB Accreditation by undergoing a thorough evaluation and upholding the BBB Accreditation Standards.
BBB assigns ratings from A+ (highest) to F (lowest). In some cases, BBB will not rate the business (indicated by an NR, or "No Rating") for reasons that include insufficient information about a business or ongoing review/update of the business's file.
